A couple of years ago I acquired a 1947 Farmall A from the original owner with a stuck engine. Brought it back to life using all the orignial electrical components except the wire harness, three light bulbs, battery box and battery. It needed an engine overhaul, various seals, bearings, rear tires and some paint. So, here are the results after a year in the shop. Enjoy.
Thanks for looking

It is now parked in the garage with two previous projects, a 1950 AC B and a1942 Famall H.

They have all been great retirement projects

Wonderful job so nice to see them original what ho altenator. Great looking. You were fortunate the cycl walls were in good shape. I have one now the walls are so bad i will need to press the sleeve and piston out together. It happens when someone does a new engine then lets it set out in the rain.

Very nice job. I am new to post. I am just
starting a restoration to a 1940 A. I have
purchased the parts manual & just recently the "
Blue Ribbon Service Manual" I am searching for
something with more detail. Like illustrations
actually showing the axle seals, pulling throw out
brg. I restored a 49 cub 5 years ago and had
wonderful manuals. Any ideas I would appreciate.
My block is super clean and ready for the overhaul
kit.
Thanks for listening

Thanks for the nice comments

Gene, you are right about the sleeves, actually the whole engine was in great shape. To bad they let water get down the stack and damage it. Did not appear to have been a part before.
The tractor also had the exhaust lift system but was not complete enough to install. All I really have that may be good is the valve and control linkage.

DCjr, I bought reprint books from Binder Books but are probably what you have. I find the parts book to be very helpful with the great illustrations that IH provided in the parts books. Service books were somewhat vague back then.

Dennis.
You are correct . They are not bad and using parts
book diagrams also helps. Thought there may be
something else. I match mark and photo enough to get
her back together. I may have more questions for you
folks as I proceed. What primer did you use ?
Rattler or gun? My last resto to cub I used rattler
primer under IH paint from my gun. Worked well ???
Comments??

Dave, I used PPG Products, Epoxy primer and MAE Acrylic Enamel.
No rattle cans. Epoxy primer works great but has some requirements like needs to be covered within 72 hrs with primer surfacer or top coat so you have to move along.
Good luck on your project.

Dennis.Excellent info. I will be looking into that method and product when the time comes. It would be worth it for this particular tractor.
Thanks again
