H brake seal replacement

My H has a leaking brake seal on the left side. In the attached pic, is the black arrow pointing to the seal I need to pull out and replace? Part #76510C91? I'm just double-checking before I tear anything out. Thanks

You can only remove the seal, not the bolted plate. Removing the plate will destroy the pinion carrier, it will not come out.
Just pry out the seal. New seals will likely be thinner. Put them in so they do not rub in the groove of the old seal. Pack the back side with chassis grease to assure it is lubed. Some times people put in two seals per side. That also works if grease is put between them. Jim

Yes! Do not loosen the bolts, they cannot remove the Pinion carrier Without first removing the Bull gears from the axles and moving them rearward to clear the inner part of the carrier. Many have been broken in the belief that it must come out. It only comes out enough to make you believe it will continue. Jim

In addition to all that Jim has stated, I just did this same repair last year. NAPA has the seals. I used 1 per side, and have had zero issues. I used a 10" piece of 3" ABS pipe to drive the seal in place. The original seals are quite thick, and are a pain to remove. However, it is a necessary evil.

Also, if your brake linings are in decent shape but just oil soaked, I used a soldering propane torch to "cook" the gear lube off my brake linings. Worked like a champ. did a light roughing of the lining to remove the carbon from the "cook off". and they work like champs. My H is a light duty work tractor with a future of "trailer queen" duty.

good luck and post any questions or issues you run into.

Just did these on my 41 H, I used a heavy duty awl to collapse inward, & used two seals. And yes 3" scd. 40 PVC pipe works great for driving in the seals !

Drilling 3/32 holes in the metal part, and screwing drywall screws in just till they get fat then pulling with a flat bar seems to work. Jim

Jason, I use the Napa online search. In the upper right hand corned of their web page is "find a part", and there is an interchange check box. Put the IH part number in, and click the interchange. It does not return an interchange 100% of the time, but I have found alot of parts this way.
