Cub Hydralics

Did all Cubs come from factory equipped with hydralics or were some of the early ones without? Don"t know too much about the red tractors, even tho I work garden with Super A. Thanks, BillyC.

My 1949 didnt have it when I bought it. Brother of the original owner said it didnt have them when it was purchsed new. The owner got the dealer to throw in a hand lift sickle mower, instead of waiting a week on one with hydraulics to come in from the factory.

Dave,

Funny you should ask. I was born in Ann Arbor in 1944 while my father studied at U of MI. The tractor was bought by my Great Uncle at Goodall Tractor (or Goodrich, can't remember) a mile from my house in Tewksbury, MA. It had the large IH chimney that was required of dealers. I hung out there some and remembered the introduction of the 300/400. Dealership closed when I was about 11. Building started out as a blacksmith shop and is currently a drug store. A sign of the times.

There were probably 20 dealers within 50 miles. There are none today. One dealership was located on the second floor of an old textile mill building in Lawrence, MA. No inventory ever saw the light of day until sold.

Jim, yes it was Goddard. Thanks. The dealership was on the Lowell-Tewksbury line. The building is definitely in Tewksbury. A few square feet of the approximately one acre plus lot may be in Lowell. I am going by the change in pavement from concrete in Lowell to bituminous in Tewksbury.

Not funny, actually. You surprised me a while back when you said you were native to the place where I have lived my whole life...although I avoid Ann Arbor like the plague. The U of M crowd makes my skin crawl. I actually live in Brighton and was curious if the Cub in question was purchased while you were here or was related to the move back east.

owell is what IH had in their list. It may just mean their mail came from Lowell.
