H Battery Ground Strap

Can anybody recommend a battery ground strap that is the same size and thihckness and heft as the original H battery ground? The one I got from O'Reilly is about 1/2 the thickness, and 2/3 the width. It may work OK, but I'd like the big one.

Use a #1 gauge cable, and ground it to the inside starter mounting bolt. Very, very few folks use that braided grounding strap anymore.

I make my own battery cables. For 6 VDC positive ground, I use high strand #0 gauge cable that I buy from the area welding supply store. I buy the total lineal feet required to do the job and cut each cable to perfect length. Then instead of crimping the ends on I slide the cable into the terminal and heat the terminal up with a propane torch and fill it full of solder. Add 4" of heavy duty shrink tube...and now you've got a battery cable that will last your lifetime and mine...and the best part is IT FITS PERFECTLY! It's not the cheapest route, but it's the last set of cables you will buy.

Are you running 6 volts or 12?

If 6, then you're wise not to use it. It's probably designed for 12v.

6v requires a lot more current, and you need the heavier stuff for proper operation.

However, if you're running 12v, it'll probably fine.

I like the welding cable idea, with solder joints. I don't think you can get much better than that.

Thanks guys. I never thought to ground it to the starter bolt, that IS the way to do it.
I have 12-VDC, and my old notes say negative ground.
I appreciate it.
