Farmall A coolant overflow

Does anyone know if it"s common on an A to have a little coolant spit out the overflow line when you"re working the tractor hard? It wasn"t even enough to effect the coolant level. I just noticed my front tire below the overflow line was wet. Is the pipe plug in the middle of the block on the mag side where I would install a temperature gauge? I worked the little thing pretty hard for about 3 hours skidding some good sized logs. Made her grunt pretty hard, but the old girl got the job done. Thanks, Steve

My cub does that under heavy load .I cut 3 acres of grass with a woods belly mower.I top off water levels after each cutting .

You may be overfilling it.

I Beleive the level is supposed to be 1.5" below the top - to allow for expansion.

Depending on just exactly your engine was built the sender goes in the lower outlet where it leaves the block. Now your head just may have a plug towards the front on top and thats a good place for a sender. Without a water pump the temp will be low at the outlet as thats the way the thermosiphion system works. You mite put a thermomenter in the top when using that will give you an idea of the coolant when working it will run around 165-175

Well, a couple of things mentioned here did happen. First, it was some pretty rough terrain. Plus the jerking back and forth getting the logs to move. And I was going up a very steep hill. The tractor didn"t get hot, I was just wondering about it. It"s not like it"s losing coolant. I can look down into the radiator and definitely see how it could slop out from bouncing around. My $25.00 front wheel weight find along with lowering the drawbar makes for a log pulling tiny beast. Thanks guys.

I agree with Gordo, my H burped out antifreeze this weekend after working it hard for the first time since filling it. I am not going to add unless it really needs it.

A thermosyphon system will find it's own level when the tractor is up to operating temp. When the coolant expands when running, it comes out the overflow if you have over filled it.

Worry about who is going to help you cut and split the logs for firewood!

Seriously, not an issue.
