C221 engine---side cover (pushrod cover) rubber seals aro...

Hello---I am working on the C221 engine on my 303 combine. I believe this engine is also used on some IHC tractors, and need some advice about the engine side plate cover. This is the cover that covers the pushrod and tappets side of the engine.

I am replacing the cover gasket. There are little rubber seals that go into the cover mounting holes, that seal around the slot head screws. I need to relace mine, and I cannot see them listed in the IHC parts book. Are they available as a replaceable part? Or are they only available as part of the valve side cover assembly? Any advice appreciated!

engines are listed in a separate "book."
online, type in your engine model c-221 on the caseih parts site and you should find what you need. about 10 years ago when I overhauled my 656 with a c-263 (same block), the screws come with seals, but not separately. The cover gasket is available from felpro as a "pushrod cover" or case ih. 10 years is about the limit of being leak free from what i've experienced.

Thanks for the reply. I got the gasket from IH, but I've checked both my combine parts book (which has the engine in the back) and also the Case IH online parts for these rubber seals, and they don't show them.

I suppose I can get by just putting on a dab of silicone sealant. But it'd be nice to have the original rubber seals.

At $4.00 plus each it gets spendy pretty quick to change all the screws. If your old screws are OK you can make new seal washers from the correct size fuel hose. Just slice off the correct length to replace the seal.
