300 u pto rebuild help

I opened my pto on my 300 utility to check the bands and there was a lot of wobble in the shaft. I pulled off the PTO unit and found the planet gear shafts (they weren"t pinned in place any more and are worn to the poit where they are not straight), a couple of the thrust washers (two are broken), and all the needle bearings (I assume there are supposed to be some between the shafts and planet gears - none left on mine) are shot, but the actual planetary gears and all other gears and bearings look ok - my questions:

1. Is the pto area by the bands supposed to be wet or dry because it looks to have seals to seperate it from the transmission area?

2. Are the thrust washers supposed to be installed so they press inward to keep the gears centered? mine face the other way and it does"t look like they do aything like that.

3. Where can I get new needle bearings and planetary gear shafts? Spent all morning looking!

4. What fluid do you use for the transmission fluid and (depending on question 1) for the rear pto area?

Thanks guys, this is about the last thing I have to finish to get this tractor done!

If anyone has a line on cheap new or used parts, I would appreciate it. The stealer wants $43!! for the thrust washer (which is essentailly a little piece of spring steel), and $40 each for the 1" pins that hold the gears in place.

It looks like from the parts diagram the needle rollers are loose and it's not actually a bearing? Anyone replaced these before?

The bearing is a needle bearing it uses the surface of the shaft (very hard and smooth (originally), and the inside of the gears, also hard, to comprise the bearing. Any shaft will need to be casehardened and tempered to be of use. Needles should be available if the original size can be determined. Best of luck, Jim

Is the part on the right all thats needed.

yep, one on the right. my actual shaft and carrier look good, but the insides / pins / needle bearings of the 3 little gears are shot! The gear pins were actually loose where the roll pins that lock them in place had broken.

Don't know what caused it, I checked all the other bearings and they all seem pretty good-

Did my 560 pto about 4-5 yrs ago. Could only get parts from dealer$$$$.3 gears,3 pins,6 oil slingers (spring steal peices) and needle bearings $526.00. Could all parts in one hand.
