Misses when cold

My 404 (gas) starts every time but misses if I give it any rpm's until it warms up ..5 minutes or so depending on how cold it is outside. Then it runs great! Not sure where to start. Thanks.

Old tractors don't have automatic chokes and fuel injection. You have to play with the choke. You are not going to start it cold and drive off like you do with your car.

The issue is that the tractor needs a richer mixture to run when it is cold. I have found that bad ignition components can make this worse. I would verify that those parts are in good condition before looking further.

The exhaust on my H ran a little black when warm because I was running the mixture that much too rich. It now runs clear all the time.

I grew up around 656 and 706 gassers. This is normal until the manifold warms up. Best to leave it alone if it runs good at operating temp. Ask Allen or tractor vet, sure they will agree.

It's normal. I've got a couple of Farmall Hs that are the same way. They both run perfect once warmed up.

Thanks for all resposes. Keep it simple: Do nothing, use the choke. My kind of mechanic work!
