are the gas tanks the same?

The 2 will physically bolt up the same, but I think, (don't know for sure) the outlet holes are in slightly different locations.

Most are the same, if the tank has a 3/8 pipe thread hole for a outlet. Early ones had a 1/4 pipe thread.

But is the outlet hole in the same location? I do know that a Farmall H tank will bolt onto an I4/W4, but the sediment bowl ends up being either too far forward or too far back and it interferes with something.

Looks like a SM and a SW6 have the same part # tank. Most SM and M tanks will interchange.
