IH706 alternator terminal wires

I disconnected the alternator on my IH 706 to change the water pump. Put it back together and can't remember which wire goes to which terminal?? Bonehead mistake. I have a yellow and blue wire. One of the terminals says "F", which I assume means field. Anybody know??
Thanks

Yes, if you have the original 10DN alternator, "F" means "FIELD". You should NOT have connector orientation issues 'cause the 10 DN or the later 10SI that someone MAY have replaced it with have matching connectors that can only be plugged in on way. Or, is there MORE to the story?

If it's a Delco W/ external regulator, one of those wires should be hot with key "on", and look at the regulator to see what color wires are on it. Failing that, call a place where they rebuild alternators.

Hmmm, there's just threaded posts with nuts on the alternator. The wires just have eyes which you slip on the posts and tighten them down.

OK, I think you threw us a curve, there, and actually have a GENERATOR... generators are long and skinny and have STEEL bellies and alternators are generally shorter and made of aluminum.

IF a generator, it will have 2 terminals. "F" and "ARM". Typically, the wire going to the "ARM" terminal will be larger.

IIRC, in your first post you mentioned "blue" which is a typical color for the "F" wire in a Delco system.

O.K., back up. ALL posts threaded? Sounds like someone put on a Motorcraft alt. at some point. At any rate, look on the regulator for the color of wires in question. Fords are marked I,S,A,F not necessarily in that order. Only S and F will go to the alternator. Delco regs. are labeled F,2,3,4. F and 2 go to the alternator. If none of this helps, you need to give more clues.

Thanks to both of you. Yes, I think it is a generator and I followed it to the voltage regulator and found which wire was connected to the "F" terminal on the regulator (yellow).
