Super M live pump

I have never removed the live pump from a super M before. Due to an unforseen problem I need to remove and disassemble the live power pump. Can I remove the bolts and pull the whole pump and distributor assembly together? I know the live power pump is driven by the cam gear but is it indexed, or timed like the cam gear is timed to the crank gear? I have only seen behind the timing cover on a different M and cannot remember if the pump gear needs to go back EXACTLY the same way it comes out. Thank you.

It must go back correctly or it eill be out of time. Putting the tractor at TDC compression on #1 cyl is best. If you cannot move the engine, it still can be done, but marking the rotor position is vritical, as is locating the distributor on its mount. Aligning these on assembly and not moving the engine will be fine. Jim

I added the pump assembly to my H. I would recommend to set the engine on TDC, and mark the postion of the rotor on the distributor, and the distributor on the pump. That will guarantee you get it back where it was.

You might also want to mark the slot position between the distributor and the pump if you take that apart. The setscrew was loose on my pump, I would check that and locktite it while it is apart.

Thanks both Jim and David. That aside, is there an exploded diagram of the live pump available? I have seen the manual for the hydraulics but the only exploded diagram was for the liftall. It shows the live pump but no details. The pump is an IH factory pump.

The live pump is not rebuildable. It's a throw-away part. If you're taking it apart you're on your own.

Not true! He may have difficulty finding the parts because that pump is most likely obsolete, but every part in it was available at one time.

If it still has the original pesco pump look at the pump diagram for a pesco on a Farmall 450 hydraulic system to see whats available.
To add to what others said about removing and replacing, the bottom two pump mounting bolts are different lengths. Short one goes toward engine block. Bolt thats to long goes in and contacts the cam gear. Don't have enough fingers to count the times I found that problem.

My dad would rebuild a pump by sanding the rotors, center block and covers down with emery cloth on a piece of plate glass. It may sound a little unorthodox, but he had pretty good luck with it.

I just picked up a surface grinder for scrap price. Maybe I should go into rebuilding obsolete hyd pumps.
