Super A -pieces found in PTO

Hi again guys,
I had to pull the PTO off my Super A. The bushing at the transmission shaft went and I had to replace it. During the cleanup before assembly, I found two flat pieces of metal in the bottom of the differential case. I looked and looked and looked but couldn't find where they came from. I'm hoping someone here will recognize them (pics above).
Also, I have a parts tractor that I pulled apart with the idea of swapping the PTO's if necessary. It's A good thing it was just the bushing because they were completely different. Where the PTO shaft meets the transmission, one has a slide in gear and the other has a slotted shaft. What's up with that? I thought the transmissions and PTO's were all the same.

Just a guess on the broken pieces, but I'd look at the guides/retainers for the transmission shift forks.

Your PTO difference is a change from the A to the Super A. What you call a "slotted shaft" is from an A. You just need to keep the shifter sleeve mated with a matching upper transmission shaft.

So if I understand you right Jim, I can use the A PTO in the Super A as long as I use the splined Shifter sleeve from The Super A. Is that right?
The reason I wasn't sure is, I noticed that the PTO shaft nose (the part of the shaft that goes into the bushing in the upper transmission shaft)is longer than the shaft nose on the Super A PTO shaft. It looks like there is enough depth to the hole in the upper transmission shaft in the Super A for the A shaft to fit but I wasn't sure.
Thanks
Dave

Yes, that is what I was saying.

As I recall, we swapped one the other way, Super A PTO into A transmission. It worked fine. I THINK we did one the other way and it was OK too, but you might want to double check some dimensions to make sure. You could also try putting the PTO in place without a gasket and verify the PTO housing will mate to the transmission housing without a gap.
