Aftermarket Radiator

Anyone have any advice on an aftermarket radiator for a '43 H? I see they are anywhere from $300 to $700. Mine is toast. Appearently, the leak started before I noticed it and had drained the rad while sitting. Hope I didn't roach the head and/or block! Nothing in the oil pan

Kevin...have you had a radiator shop check it out for repairs? What "replacement" does the repair shop recommend? USA or CHINA made replacement product? Based on what I'm "reading into your comments", you more than likely have NOT hurt anything in the motor if shut down/cooled down immediately when you first got it hot.

Good luck...keep us informed!!

I got one from Steiners that was made in china. It does not leak, but the dimensions were a little off so I had to grind the shroud to fit and the neck was pushed down so the cap is not level.

Rick, In all honesty... No, I haven't. There are a couple reputable shops locally. The tanks are fine, it's the core that's toast. I suppose if someone is repoping a radiator complete that there is someone out there selling just the core. I'll definitely keep you abreast of the outcome.

I've got the same issue and questions with an A I just bought. I took it to a radiator shop and he was saying he gets tons of the after market ones to fix after they have been used for a while. I'm having mine recored. It is $20 more than an after market (with shipping, etc) but its an American made core and he will stand behind it.

I purchased a aftermarket radiator, its alignment was not good an had to have the hole for the steering shaft moved so it does not rub. Have yours recored if possible. It will be less problems in the long run.

It just irks me that these aftermarket parts almost fit, but don't. I put in an aftermarket radiator on my Farmall MD that I bought from the local radiator shop and everthing was just slightly off. Now, my hood doesn't fit quite right and bolt holes didn't quite line up. At least the steering shaft hole was in the right place and it hasn't leaked yet (been on the tractor for 5 yrs). It is kind of like battery boxes in that every one I have bought has had to have the bolt hole elongated to make it fit. I thought it maybe was a Farmall issue, but I just put a new battery box on a John Deere B and it was the same problem where I had to redrill three of the four mounting holes. Roger
