Four wheel drive question

Looking at yooper's posting of the mackinaw bridge ride, and the MM with 4 wheel drive - got me thinking.

I'm a farmall fan, but FAR from an expert. What was the first and/or smallest farmall 4 wheel drive tractor? Was there one at all?

That MM is an Elwood conversion. M's can be converted as well. Same goes with JD. Elwood began making the kits in the 60's. They purchased govt surplus WW2 front ends from the next door Army Supply Depot in Peoria, IL.

I believe you could buy a 560/660 with the Elwood factory installed. Somebody posted IH literature showing the kit installed. You will have to YT search for it.

Don't know the smallest. Maybe 284.

Seeing as you didn't specify IH the Massey Harris GP comes to mind as an early four wheel drive, they were mid thirties. I doubt they were the first but there were a number of them built. Sam
