B414 Hydraulic/Hitch Issues

Hello.Any help would be greatly appriciated. After searching for someone to fix the Hydraulics on an International B414(even the dealer),nobody in the area seemed to know anything about these tractors,I decided to tackle it myself.I replaced all o-rings and main cylinder seal(went off a parts breakdown diagram). When I started the tractor up everything seemed to work great but when I put the bush hog on,it will "hick-up"(drop down a bit and lift back up) Quite fast.If I close the valve off it will stay at that height without a problem.Al the controls seem fine.I am just not sure where to look next,as I said I am a novice going off a parts diagram and any help would be appriciated.
Thanks
John

Hi Jim.Yes the draft control was all the way forward.I tried different positions and it did not seem to matter.(with the weight on it would drop a small amount and bounce back up).No weight - no problem. Also honed the main cylinder a bit before installing the main seal.

Also Jim,am I correct in assuming it is not the main cylinder if it does not leak down with the shut off closed?
Thanks
John

John,
I believe you are correct that the main lift cylinder is not leaking or the 3pt would go down with shut off valve closed. We had a 434 (newer version of B414) do the same thing with load on 3pt but it would stop with draft control fully forward.
Also would stop with shut off valve closed. The other thing was it would not occur as much if the Slow/Fast valve was in slow position. Never did find the problem and traded it after about 10 years on a 384.

Hi Jim.Yes it seems to be a common issue.I found two other people in the area with 434 's and have the same symptoms as this one.(they have never got it looked at.)Will keep asking around.Heading to a repair shop on Thursday and will hopefully learn something about which valve I should be looking at.The biggest problem I have run into so far is that most of the guy's working on tractors in the area are to young to know anything about these. In the meantime hopefully someone out there might know. Will post if I make any progress.
Thanks again,
John

Hi.Good news! Thanks for the attempts. The problem appears to be in the lowering spool assembly.I had another junked unit here and did not like the way it was seating so I replaced it with the other one.Tried it and it is working A-1.Going to look into getting a new one because this one is wore quite a bit but working for now.I wanted to thank you for the response and let anyone who reads this know what the issue was.Hopefully it will save someone from pulling out as much hair as I have.
Thanks again,
John
