Model 80 Little Genius plow

Hey guys I am looking at buying this 3 bottom plow. Has older paint job good front tires.. Was used this spring for garden and was said to work well. Does 400.00 sound like a good price? Also are parts impossible to come by? Seller said the coulters show some wear.

I have a farmall M I intend to pull it with. How much weight should I need to put on the rear? Thanks

Looks to be in good shape and unless you are going to be doing ALOT of plowing, you should not have to worry about replacing and wear parts from the looks of it. Just make sure you get everything set up correctly. Add does not say what size bottoms the plow has; an M was originally rated for 3-16's but unless the motor is real fresh, it likely wont still pull that. I know here in central my MD barely handles my 3-14 slat bottom and my SM barely handles my 3-16. I dont know the history of my tractors, but I have not touched their motors. Varying soil types will make a difference too... As for weight, you really dont need much, My SM has 14.9s with one set of weights and I get just as much traction with it as I do with the MD on loaded 13.6's with 3 sets of weights.

I bought 2 plows last year, both #8 little genius, one 3-14 trip bottom slat plow for $250 and one 3-16 hydraulic lift for $175. My paint is worse but everything else looks about the same from the pictures so I would say $400 may be a little high but I dont know much about the model 80s.

An M will pull three bottoms without any wt added we plowed for many many years without any wts even pulled a harrow behind.

Easier to just measure from beam to beam either outside or inside or center to center it will all measure the same 14in for 14in bottoms and on and on.

whether or not you will need weights depends on your soil. It should pull a 3 bottom. We have some ground where the SM just stopped and spun pulling 2-14s with no weights on it. Plenty of power but that low ground where the water stood was so hard you thought you snagged a giant root.
