656 starts and stops

I have a 656 utility gas that has suddenly developed a problem of the engine stopping as soon as it is started. After some checking found the gas shutoff solenoid is shutting off as soon as I release the starter button. When the engine just about come to a stop, the amp and oil dash lights come back on and I can hear the gas solenoid at the carb click. It will do this repeatedly. Sometimes may stay running but rough as the solenoid is cutting in and out. I am told low oil pressure can cause this. Perhaps bad oil sending unit killing the gas flow? But then wouldn"t the oil light stay on? Any advise? Thanks.

chuck i have a 656 i had this problem the ignition switch was the trouble when you turn the switch on turn the key back to the left just a little see if that helps in friendship gene bradley

I think Gene bradley has it. It could be a wire or connection in that circuit as well. Jump battery voltage to the solenoid directly with its normal wire off. If it runs great, follow the wire back to the switch. If it still runs poorly, the switch could be cutting out the ignition. Bypass that with a hot wire as well. Runs great, replace the switch.
