Live Hydralics Question

I have a 1953 super M with live hydraulics. The hydraulics are not plumbed except for the the supply hose that goes from the reservoir behind the bell housing to the pump that is in front of the distributor. There are two pipes on the left of the reservoir that are capped and two on the right, also capped. The high pressure side of the pump is also capped. When this cap is removed and the tractor started nothing comes out (yes there is fluid in the tractor). The control arm that goes to the belly reservoir does nothing and has no resistance whatsoever, it feels like it is connected to nothing. Underneath the engine oil fill cap just to the front of the pump is a plate that covers a thing that looks like an adjusting screw.
So- Is there a way to turn on/off the pump? Is the pump bad? What is this screw? Does it have any relationship to the hydraulics? Which pipes will be returns for plumbing in a new valve? Where could I find a diagram for the M/Super M hydraulics?

I would like to set this tractor up with three valves so we can run a three point and two other systems

Thanks

The pump may be bad, capping it with no oil in it will ruin it quickly. For it to try to work the pressure side must be connected to the reservoir/valve system. Jim

I am sure that capping it would ruin it. (it wasn't me) What is the screw? could it be a shutoff for the pump? If not what is it? I do not want mess something up by just turning it and seeing what happens.

I f the pressure side is capped off that means the pump probably ran dry and probably shot it need to run in oil whether it is used or not running dry will toast them.

For the live hydraluc to work properly. you need a supply line from the resivor to the pump inlet. From the pump outlet you need a high pressure hose to a hydraluc valve. The return port on the valve is plumbed back to the resivor. This will allow oil to circulate live through the system anythime the engine is running.

The "screw" is not a screw, it is part of the Veeder Root hour meter drive system. See caseih.com, USA, search for parts (top of page), Put farmall in the box, scroll to Super m
select Attachments, select 407 to see it! Jim

Thanks everybody that helps. I do not know who capped of the pressure side but I sure wish they hadn't!
