I"ve not had any problems starting my H, then all of a sudden it wont turn over as if the battery is dead. I checked and cleaned all the connections, but no results. I rocked the tractor in gear thinking maybe the starter was stuck, but no results there either.....any ideas???

More info is needed.

IS the battery dead?

You didn't mention testing it at all.

There's dead, and there's uncharged. If your generator isn't working, it simply may not be getting charged back up.

Is it 6 volt, or converted to 12?

Do you have a charger to charge the battery with? Or to jump start the tractor with?

Could be locked up against the fly wheel - they do that when the starter ring gear gets bad spots. Loosen up the starter enough to back it out part way. move the engine a bit by had and retighten it.

Rock it HARD! Put some muscle into it. You will know you are successful when you hear a "click" from the starter. If that doesn't work, do as the other poster said and lossen up the starter bolts enough that you can pull the starter back an inch or two, and again, listen for that "click".

I'll try it harder as soon as i get off work and back home today. Thanks for the info!

I have never had any luck trying to rock a tractor to unlock a starter I always just loosen up the bolts and pull it out some and that always works plus if the starter is not grounding well doing that helps ground it better and a lot of times that is where the problem is

When you get the starter loosened up, be sure to hit the starter button HARD when starting the engine next time.
That and a new, improved starter drive will make life easier!

I have done this many times in my life with various H s, get one guy on each rear tire and rock like crazy, you will hear it let go when it does. Good luck
