how do u tell a 6 volt regulator form a 12 volt regulator. And also a regulator from a cutout.THANKS

Look at the underside and it may say whether it is 6 or 12, may not also. If I remember right the cutout has 2 connections on one side, one on the other, regulator as 3 on one side and one on the other.

The Delco regulators had voltage & polarity stamped on one of the mounting lugs. They were stamped 6P for 6volt positive ground----or 12P--for 12 volt positive ground. If negative ground, would have 6 N or 12N.

My H has a regulator and it has the hookup like CNKS says.

To your second question: To tell a regulator from a cutout, remove the tin cover. If there's a single relay inside it's a cutout. A regulator however will contain 2 relays. (Or if a later model regulator, 3 relays.)
