A International

My daughter has an A (IAA 166936) that we think might be a 1946 industrial. It has a foot throttle and the front axle is diamond shaped.
Wondering how many of these were made and what was the original paint color/code?
Did International make a sickle mower to fit these or what should she look for as an aftermarket replacement? Presently has a homemade belly mower on it that she plans on removing. With the help of a friend, she added a water pump and heat gauge on it last year.
Any information much appreciated.

Can not say if they made a sickle mower for that one but I know they made one for the farm type A since I have one on my BA which is half B and half A so it is a BA

I, too, have a 46 "industrial" A sitting under my shed. My tractor originally was NC Highway Dept. and had a vacuum operated lift for/with a side mount mower...never could get it to really work satisfactory. Tractor was used to rake hay and other light chores.

So to directly answer your questions:
(1) No idea how many of the "industrial" versions were made...I do know they are fairly common.
(2) I"m not a painter, but the standard IH red for that era would be correct...and decals would be "culti-vision" and NOT Super A.
(3) Any mower made for a Farmall A (side-mount) most likely would fit.

Unless she is stuck on keeping the tractor for "personal/sentimental" reasons, she would do well to find a SUPER A that would have hydraulics, etc. My tractor is under my shed for "personal/sentimental" reasons and will get the "works" done to it someday just to keep be busy!!

Good luck...hope my feeble comments can help you.

Sounds like an industrial version. The differences were the foot throttle, front axle, front name plate, several decals. Most would have originally been red, same as the farm tractors. The model decals would be a simple "A" in a circle, no "Super", no "Culit-vision". The hood side sheet decals would have the word "International".

IH made a side mounted sickle bar type highway mower for that tractor. It was the No. 18 and normally had a 5 foot cutter bar. It required the pneumatic liftall system, which was powered by exhaust PRESSURE, not vacuum.

The 22 and AI-23 mowers were made for the Super A and depend on the Touch-Control hydraulics. A 23 would be impossible without hydraulics. You could probably make do with a 22, if you could find one. The rear mount 16, made for the Farmall A would fit right on.

She bought this from her Grandpa and has it running like a champ. With the help from a friend, she installed a water pump, heat gauge, starter and did a 12V conversion. It has a manual lift on it now along with a homemade belly mower that she plans on removing as the blade tips must be breaking the sound barrier it is so noisy. So it sounds like the rear mount 16 is what she needs to be on the lookout for. Is that also the sickle mower that was used on Cubs?

No the Cub mowers were different. There was a Cub-22 side mounted sickle mower for the Cub but it was different from the 22 mower mentoned above.

Some of the belly mounted rotary mowers (both IH and other manufacturers) used the same deck on a Cub and an A but used different mounting brackets etc.
