560 Front tire sizes

Had a little discussion with a 560 puller concerning rules for a local pull's farm stock class pull. Rules stipulate tractors must have tires tha same size as they came new equipped with...with the option of having one size larger rear tires than largest option. Okay, that's easy enough to understand and enforce....but what about the front tires? The 560 had 4.00-15 tires mounted on disk wheels on it and it's owner though they were "legal" because some 560's fitted out to have cotton pickers mounted on them had this size front tire. Well, this didn't seem possible to me...small tires and wheels to carry additional weight, Nahh, doubt it!!.....and it just happens to give the tractor an advantage by lowering the front end quite a bit. It's pretty common for various puller class tractors to use small wheels and tires on the front, but farm stock rules of this particular pulling group...specify tractors with field use operational equipment. What's the answer?

I'm no expert, don't even live near cotton country, but, the cotton picker tractors that I have seen pictures of had one single large front tire.

Welcome to the wonderful world of tractor pulling.

You will find that some competitors will take advantage of every loophole or bend every rule almost to the breaking point to gain the upper hand in competition. They know full well the "spirit" of the rules, yet they still do it. It's cheating without technically cheating.

Rule makers try to keep the rules simple, but that leaves them full of loopholes: If one specially-equipped tractor came off the line with 4.00-15 tires, that makes it legal per the rules.

So, it's:

1. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
2. Take your ball and bat and go home.
3. Play it straight, never win or place, but go home with the warm fuzzies knowing that you were a good sport.

No 560's were equipped with 400 x 15 tires, cotton picker or whatever, from the factory. Cotton picker 560's used single tire on guide wheel, usually 7.50 x 20 on high drums and 7.50 x 16 on low drums.

Thanks for all the replys..replies..uh comebacks. Anyhow, the 560 guy said he must have broken off a gear tooth or something unloading his tractor and couldn't pull it this time anyway 'cuz there was a nasty click in the driveline. Funny, I didn't think he knew too much when he told me his tractor had the standard size gas engine at 281 cu. inches. Geez, I only suggested he might have a 301 cu. in. 806 set up. He seemed puzzled when I told him I thought 560 gassers had 263 cu. in. Of course I know everyone cheats at the pulls.....'cept me of course.....
