I bought a farmall 400.the pto does not work.also the seasonal disconnect had a groove cut in it to let the lever move further.ireplaced the seasonal disconnect.nothing inside the trans looked bad to me.i replaced the brake bands with a used set and adjusted them according to the book.the pto worked for a few minutes and stopped working.i readjusted the bands again.still didn"t work.does anybody know how thick the bands are supposed to be.also when the pto is engaged it sounds like a sewing machine.

Are you sure the seasonal disconnect didn't jump out of gear on you. Once they start that they will just bust that lever off inside or out. You can put a split collar in behind the connector and positively hold it engaged. If a band has any lining at all they will usually hold all but the heaviest loads.

thanks pete.what size is that collar and where would i find one?is this a part that an i h dealer is familiar with?also can you resend that picture.it went away for some reason.

thanks,fran

The dealer may very well not know what you are talking about. Just measure the shaft and then hunt down a split collar of some kind. It was Wardner that sent the picture of his method of doing it.

Warder could you please resend me the picture.somehow it went away.also where can i find a split collar and do you know what size it is?

Thanks Fran

Having watched Wardner's exploits over the years, I expect that he probably had the collar on hand, and has no idea where it originally came from :)
