Heard of a `37 or `38 10-20 in a shed. Sat where it was parked for the last 15 years. It was rumored that the engine wont turn when you crank it. It had been repainted, it is quite straight, it has steel wheels. He has all the cleats and also the front wheel extensions. What would be a reasonable offer?

Thanks in advance.

Talk to him about your plans for it, and discuss keeping it out of the scraper's hands. Discuss the reality of working on an unknown stuck engine, and that you have a desire to spend the time and effort to make it function once again.
Discuss oppornitues he might have to see it, or (better yet) help, or drive it when done. Discuss the reality of scrap price, and the sdded factor of the condition of all but the Stuck engine, and let him know the going price is in the area of 450 to 600. The tactics are realistic to a person with attachment to a tractor that ment dramatic help to his farm.
Politics is the best attitude and will make a cooperative friend. Jim

Hi Butch, I haven't seen you posting on here lately. We're getting swamped with heavy rain.
Guess your brother has told you by now. You should see all the buildings on APG.

We've received over 14 inches of rain since the 7th of August and still raining. First we were hit by Irene and now TS Lee. Its moving at a snail's pace. Around 2mph. Now they say Katia
may hit us with more rain. Its going to be forever for the field corn to dry. We had no rain in June & July. Hal

All is well and dry here. Starting Corn silage monday. Many near here are well under way. Within 50 miles of here we were blessed with timely rain. Crops look good to excellent. Sweetcorn has been running 9-10 ton to the acre normal is 6-7. Good luck to you out there...keep the sump pumps running!

Well, you may try what I heard in an old song, in any order, older whiskey, younger women, faster cars.
We 'older gentlemen' can be bought. :)

Well, us "older" folk are also practical. The tractor is worth at least scrap price. Last I knew, those were around 5500 lbs. so, find out what #1 scrap is going for in your area, and start there. Fair is fair.

I also collect military firearms. I on occasion, have been asked to give appraisals on estates to family members. I often give them 3 prices. What a retailer with intent to resell will pay. What a collector will pay if they need it for their collection, and what I would pay if I were buying it.

9 times out of 10, my "what I would be willing to pay" is higher than retail resell, and lower than a "heck on wheels" collector. You would be surprised how many times I get a call back 6-8 weeks later to buy the rifle or pistol............but at no time EVER do I take advantage of someone who has asked me what a fair price is. What goes around comes around.............
