any harm in leaving H belly pump empty?

My H's belly pump has a nasty leak, makes a big mess. I plan to pull the pump and replace the seals this winter, but until then is there any harm in leaving the pump empty and still use the tractor as long as I don't use the hydraulics? Nothing in the pump is turning unless you pull the lever right?

Thanks

Pump shaft and gears turn anytime the wheels roll or clutch pedal is back with transmission out or in gear.
Take the inspection cover off behind the pump housing and remove the pump drive shaft. With cover off remove cotter pins and slide sleeves and remove shaft. Easy to do if not rusted.

Do remove the drive shaft as D. Slater indicates. The shaft is the first thing you will need to remove when fixing the leak anyway, and this prevents pump damage. Jim

YES!!!!!!!!!!! The pump runs anytime the tractor is running! I know it makes a hellova mess put you cant afford to rebuild the pump. Good Luck,Kenny
