I just got the backhoe removed from my 2606. As soon as I get it to run, I'll remove the IH 3000 loader so I can do some engine work.

Anyway I was just wondering about how much and how easy/difficult would it be to add a pto unit assuming I could find one at a reasonable price? It has a 5 speed with forward/reverser lever.

I'd probably have to weld some type of draw bar on it and maybe add a cylinder. I'd like to pull a mower and maybe a haybine and baler. And I don't really want another tractor around that needs repairs and tires and stuff. Thanks.

We need the letter suffixes on the serial number to determine whether transmission driven PTO or independent PTO.

Which ever one fits, you can probably source the parts from a 460/504/606. You can figure that out by going to the CaseIH on-line parts book. There is a remote chance that parts from a 300/350 will work but they are likely to run at the wrong speed.

Anyway, don't weld anything to the tractor. In fact, get another tractor. Life's too short to start reconfiguring a shuttle shift 2606. Money will add up too.

"IMHO",the 606 is junk-not worth the effort. There were not many built so used parts will at best difficult to find. You will probally end up replaceing mostparts from the pressure plate on back. For what you will spend on parts(not counting your labor),you can buy a good 460/560(or better) for less money. But iff thats what you really want to do,"go fot it!"

Thanks. I just thought if I could pick one up for 500 bux more or less then it might be worth it.

You can get the PTO unit for that. The issue is that the PTO drive system might not be in the tractor at all. The shuttle trans may not have provision for the drive components and shafts necessary to make it feasable.
Checking the web site might get you there, a service manual for the tractor with shuttle trans will for sure address the issue. Jim
