2606 carb with rust buildup inside

Hi, Since it wouldn't start, I pulled the IH carb on my 2606 to clean it. Found a build up of rust inside the carb body with a collection around the main jet. I have it soaking in Berryman's now.

I'm just wondering how to keep the inside from rusting. It did it last summer as well and that was after I had acidized the tank again that spring. Having the usual rust in tank problems, I have acidized it a couple times. Last spring after the HCL acid bath, I added a phospheric acid and water mix to coat the tank. I didn't get all the phospheric acid drained out and some got in the carb and made it rust for the first time which I cleaned last summer.

These carbs are cast steel of some kind and they shouldn't normally rust, should they? Anyway is there anything I can coat it with before putting it back together again? Thanks.

You could gently sandblast the carb body. The cast body only !!!!! NO brass parts, main jet ECT !!!(I would be using blast media OTHER than sand!!!) Low air pressure. If you have ALL of the acid out of the fuel system, the gasoline should be good to keep it from rusting.

I do not know of any kind of GOOD coating you could put on the INSIDE of a cast carburetor ???
