Top link on 3 point hitch

None of my manuals describe how to set the top link on a 3 point hitch. My method is to level the mower and then snug up the top link. Is that correct? Any other suggestions?

Yes do not use a top link!
Use a piece of chain or a folding bar top link (chain is easy and correct)
A stiff top link will wreck the mower or snap a hitch part if used. If the mower and tractor enter a low spot, the mower will try to lift the rear tires, or bend components trying to compress the top link. Chain is forgiving and just gets loose! Jim
