Replace clutch?

What do you guys think? 240U clutch ran fine before I split the tractor to pull engine for overhaul. How do the clutch and pressure plate look? Scuff them up and put back in?

Appreciate your advice . . .

Depends entirely upon how you plan to use the tractor.

That clutch will certainly work, for a while. How you use the tractor determines how long "a while" is.

If it's just a show tractor, that clutch will probably be fine for a good long time.

If it's going to do any real work, I'd change it without question.

I would change it. You never mentioned checking the PP with a straight edge. I would be willing to bet there is some warpage. This would solve the problem in a hurry.

To do the whole clutch would be less than $150. I did my MD this winter and it was between 100 and 150.

Ask your self how much effort it took to split the tractor, and if doing it again soon is a good choice. If it will be a toy the choice is financial. If it is a working tractor it is tactical. Jim

I would say replace the disk, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Seems like it would be minor cost and work considering you are rebuilding the engine. Would not want to split that tractor again soon. Actually one of the rivets appears to be either close to, or is hitting the pressure plate. Just curious, where in NJ are you? I'm in northern Hunterdon County.

Either replace everything,or take it to a clutch shop and have it ALL redone like I did.

The one MAJOR advantage of having my pressure plate rebuilt was I knew EXACTLY how much spring pressure I had before I committted to bolt the tractor back together and found out it slipped.(I have seen BAD pressure plates right out of the box!!!! MOST are remanufactured units.Worth checking out BEFORE install!!!)

Just sayin.

I"m in Morris County in Randolph. I had the block boiled out and the head redone at a shop near Phillipsburg.

Thanks for the advice.
