german diesel

Most will say the german, but I have the 312 in a 686 I.H. and it has given great service, with power like I never expected from a tractor that size. It will keep up with my 4020 Deere all day. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
 
D-310 German built engine has Bosch injection pump on left side of engine. D-282 USA built, has Roosa -Master pump on right side.
 
Well i have a 686 with the 310 engine in it and a couple of guys have told me i should have got one with the 312 because they are better. I kind of like the 310 it seems a little bit less noisy. I do think the 310 is a little harder to start in cold weather than the 312. I just wondered if there was more problems with the 310. Thanks guys.
 
Yes, 312's are loud and they don't start the greatest either when cold. Below about 40 degrees I have to plug it in. It is the poorest starting tractor I have. But I don't mind the noise, and the plugging in isn't a real bother because I always keep it inside anyway. Other than those two issues, it's a very dependable tractor.
