Knee extension in 1066

The knee extension on the front axle of my 1066 twisted off at the spindle end. Any suggestions on how to remove the broken stub from inside the axle. I"ve heated the pipe and applied force with a 20 ton hydraulic jack, but it doesn"t budge. Was hoping not to have to remove the axle from the tractor but it looks like I may have to.

Give 'er a bath in panther pizz, let it sit overnight, drive a chisel or other wedge into the 'split' to expand it and then chain that extension up to to another tractor using a heavy chain.

'Bump' it with the clutch and they usually break free.

Weld a 6 foot chunk of 5" I beam to the stub facing backwards such that the end is 2 feet off the ground. Jack on the end, twisting the axle in the tube. Tremendous force is applied this way. Wedge as Allan indicates. Heat and a few raps with a medium sledge on the end (toward the tractor) and it will be loose! Jim

Drive the chisel/wedge in , then apply the PP, pull or jack it out the following day , or two.
Be very careful if you "bump the clutch" to "yank" it out. That is how chains break and fly through the air and kill drivers. Apply steady pull, and have weights hanging from the chain in case it fails.

Oh yeah,

If it is really stuck, chain the other side of the front end to another big tractor or a 3' tree.

Run the chain thru that thick cast "Y" so you can really hold it.

That's why I said, "heavy chain". :>)

Believe me a "steady pull" just doesn't get it; you'll spend all week out there simply wasting your time.

Ya gotta jolt that sucker to get that inital movement. As in just 'bump' it; not backing all the way up and running out the slack.

Thanks for all your tips. I unfortunately ran out of time to try to remove the broken pipe so I bought an axle from a wrecker and stuck it in place for now. I can work on the other in winter put new bushings into it and whatever else it may need and do a swap at that time.
