Clutch Selection Opinion.

Whats everyones opinion on choice of replacment clutches. Getting a clutch for my WD9. Choice of 6 pad heavy duty type or woven factory style. This tractor is just a toy that does pull for fun in stock class once in awhile.

The Puck style will have a modest advantage in holding power, and resistance to heat destruction, It will be more prone to jerky starts and chatter. It will also wear as much into the FW and PP metal as it does itself.
The organic disk will be easier on the start stop smoothness, and last well. It is also far less destructive to the metal friction surfaces of the FW and PP. Jim

I agree. The organic disc will be a lot more user friendly and will do just fine for what you are doing with the tractor.

The 706 and larger tractors all came with the pad style disk. They will hold more torque but until you are up somewhere around 100 HP they usually are not necessary.

For the same Pressure plate force, the Metalic/Ceramic Puck type Driven disk will transfer more power. This is due to the coeficient of friction of the material, and the increased pressure per square area of material (less surface area than organic full disk results in the same PP pressure being concentrated on smaller areas)
The hardness of the material wears the contact surfaces far more than the organic composition materials, resulting in replacement of PP and deep machining of the Flywheels when replacing the "disk". They are used for tractors subject to repeated forward and back use under load, high horsepower tractors, and pro level pulling teractors. Jim

Thanks for all the help. Ordered a regular organic clutch today. thanks for your help. Don't need heavy duty clutch just to look pretty at shows.....thank again..
