Hitachi Alternator

I got the Hitachi alternator mounted on the H last night. Is the S terminal for sense, and the L for light? I am planning to wire from the ignition switch to S.

Thanks

SENSE should be connected to the large output stud or, even better, to a point as near the battery (+) as possible.

You may NOT need to use "L", if the alternator will begin charging at startup. If it does NOT, connect it to the switched side of the ignition with, with an "idiot light" or diode in the circuit.

I have the Hitachi on my 140. I jumpered the S to the big post and it works fine. It would charge at start-up, but only after you ran up the RPM's to a little over half, maybe 2/3 throttle. Later I put in the idiot light and it now charges at start-up RPM which is 1/3 throttle for me.
