DT 361 misses out at low RPM

My 856 has a motor out of a 1206. Bought this wrecked 1206 three years ago, the parking brake did not hold rolled down a hill and a oak tree took one rear axle off the tractor. The motor had about 2000 hrs on last overhaul. My 856 motor had about 14,000 hrs on it and was past wore out so I bought the whole 1206 cheaper than a motor overhaul. The problem I have with this motor is at low rpm, under 1200 it wants to miss out like a gas motor with a plug missing out.I had the inj pump rebuilt last summer but did not change anything. It also smokes black like crazy. Even sitting idleing smokes black and put a load behind it and no mosquitoes for miles. It does not have the power it should have. My 806's will walk away from it with the same load. Could it be the injectors not spraying right and letting fuel just run in? Anyone have any ideals? Does not use any oil or run hot under load.

Did you transfer the complete engine, turbo and all?

Without the turbo, wouldn't the pump be dumping too much fuel into the engine, causing the black smoke?

An injector that is stuck open could be causing your problem. With the engine at idle, crack the lines loose one at a time to see which one does not make much, if any, difference.

The injector that makes the least difference is most likely NOT the one that is bad. If you have an injector stuck open the cylinder that it is in is most likely firing, but it dumps all the residual pressure out of the injection pump head so that at idle all the fuel for the next cylinder in the firing order just builds the pressure back up so there is little fuel left to crack open the injector. At higher speeds there is more fuel injected so the miss will go away but that cylinder will still be low on fuel. Meanwhile the open injector will be dumping so much fuel that you can end up with a lot of smoke.

Turbo, air cleaner and the hood off the 1206. It did not have a solar turbo on it. They said this turbo came off a 1066 using a adapter plate between the manifold and turbo. Would this turbo work correctly on this motor?
