1206 Transmission Reverse Problem Please HELP!!!

Ok, Lets take it from the top. Was having intermittent trouble getting it to engage reverse. Re-adjusted the linkage on the clutch and transmission brake. Problem has gradually gotten worse. This morning would only go in 1 out of 20 attempts. Remo9ved top of transmission. Nothing obvious except just a little slack in the reverse cam and arm assembly where it penetrates the cover. Then there is a very small amount of slack movement in the cam roller its self. I measured the diameter of the pin that engages the fork and it is .375" and the fork is .379". I then pulled the side cover and noticed some slight slack between the reverse shift fork and the ring. Again just a little slack in the pads. I am wondering if these small amounts of slack could combine to keep the reverse from engaging?
Now, what can I do to take the slack in pivot shaft that goes through the top cover? Does anyone know if these parts are available. Does anyone know any determinant long term fixes? My mind is wide open and so is my gearbox. Time is of the essence. Thanks, LarryT

The wear on the cover and the shaft going through it are the most likely causes for your problems. Rebuilt covers are available through AG Parts, Hy-Capacity, and probably others. The other linkage parts are also available in the after market.

A rebuilt cover is actually better than a new on because the holes will be bored inn the correct locations and steel bushings installed. The bushings are longer than the original hole through the cover and will not wear as rapidly as the original cast iron.

Thanks Owen. I guess that means I will be down till at least Monday. I have a machine shop that can turn one out pretty quickly. Someone already bodged one out of brass and its so wallowed out that I get almost a 1/4 inch of movement at the end. Also, do you know where the little cam follower bearings are available? LarryT

I prefer the rebuilt covers rather than having the original rebushed only because I know the bushing will be in the correct location and not just centered in a worn hole.

The rollers and other small parts are available from IH dealers or after market places, Ag parts, Hy-capacity, A&I, and others.
