41 H compression

asuming (doubtful) that it is stock, about 6.5 to 1. Compression pressure with throttle open, and all plugs out good strong battery and 6 compression strokes into the gauge, about 85 to 95psi. Jim

Thanks Jim, From front to back I have 95,95,70,100. I was plowing this year and noticed a lot of blow by. Which I never had before then I had a miss and found the ceramic insulator on the spark plug on the 3rd cylinder was about 1/3 gone. any guesses as to what happened

The insulator broke off (It happens from thermal shock, or just built in stress) then the piece got crushed by the piston. Possibly dent the piston and or crumblings got under the valve face and caused it to be a little leaky, I would put about a tablespoon 3 CC of ATF in each cylinder then let it rest for 3 days. I would then start it and use it like it was needed on the farm. Checking again in two weeks. A cylinder leakdown test is also a fine analysis tool. Not hard to do, and cheap. Jim

The IH Blue Ribbon Serviceman's Handbook GSS-1356 "Engine Tune-up Specifications", lists 95 psi at cranking speed for a distillate engine versus 120 psi for a gasoline engine.
