Good morning guys, this farmall m that I bought real cheap; I have put new plugs, new plug wires,
new Dist, cap, new points and condenser and the starter rebuilt, and i noticed last knight
that generater belt was real loss, and no way to tighten it up, meaning no adjuster slide arm.
is that normal. I have about a 2'' slack in the belt, it dont sag,but it is not tight.
Im thinking this is not right,
Whats your thoughts:
MANY THANKS
JR FRYE

The fan pulley is thread to spin the sheaves in and out to adjust the tension on the belt.

You have to loosen a set screw first to adjust the sheaves.

The generator belt is adjusted by adjusting the width of the Pulley. It may take some penetrating juice, and a bit of effort, but it will move. The fan belt should be run with about an inch and a quarter or a bit more of slack in it. It is huge, and is not run tightor the waterpump bearings will fail. Jim

Jim & Gary are correct. However---if the shives are rusted so tight that they can't be loosened, belts come in sizes that vary by 1/2 inch.

...Unless someone already busted up the original pulley and installed something else. The only thing left to do in that case is make a slotted adjusting strap. Or, pull the generator by hand to tighten the belt, mark the strap and drill another hole.

You can't swing that generator out much more than about 1 inch before it will be rubbing against the hood.
