504 vs. 340

Just curious. Looks like these two units are very similar in HP rating. Would've thought the 152 would be a little higher rated than the 135? Other differences?

My understanding is that the 152 (called a C153) is a sleeveless C135. 504 has about 6 more HP than the 340 -- I have neither, only what I have read.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the 504 is an improved 340. They're essentially the same chassis and engine design.

504 adds frame rails between the torque tube and front bolster that the 340 does not have.

504 has 38" rear tires. I think the 340 has 36".

There's only 6 more HP because the little engine was wound up about as tight as it would go without flying apart on the 340... It's basically a descendant of the C113 engine found in the original A and B tractors. The fact that they doubled the HP and squeezed another 50 cubes out of it is quite impressive.

I don't think the 504 replaced the 340. The 504 is 46 hp and the 340 is 34hp. The 504 is 900lbs heavier shipping lbs then the 340. I don't know anything about the 340 but we had a 504 on the farm (new) and its the only farmall the left the farm after a short stay. Never like it, always had a wine in the rear and I thought the old M was more tractor which is what we were replacing it with. Traded it on a 806 and its still on the farm, tach broke at 15000 hours and that was 15 years ago. Still going.

I had a 504 diesel years ago and dad had a 340 gas. The 504 was a lot more tractor than the 340. The gas 504 had a C153 sleeveless motor that they also used on the 203 combine. The 340 had wet sleeves, not sure on this one but think they used the same sleeves as the Super C. I know of a few 504"s left in this aera but have not seen a 340 in many years. The 340 that we had had 38 inch rubber on the back, 11.4 x 38. Dad use to pull 2-14"s 2pt hitch plows with his 340. I pulled 3-12"s 3pt hitch with my 504 Diesel. My 504 diesel had a D188 motor.
