Super A Wiring Harness and Paint

When painting the cast on my Super A do you recommend:
1. masking the wiring harness
2. removing the wiring harness
3. covering the wiring harness with that black
rubber coil cover available at Canadian Tire?
All the wiring harness is original and is frayed and fragile in some places. I would like to keep it original without harming it during painting.
Also, do you remove the belt pulley to clean the inside side?

To get a good job you remove everything on the tractor, that includes the wiring harness. Original harnesses are usually rotten (impolite word for fragile). Best to replace. Do not buy one from Steiners, their colors are terrible. I had to cover mine with a product similar to the one you mentioned.
 
IH painted them at the plant, in fact they painted almost everything. So to be 'correct' the harness should be painted as part of a proper restoration.
 
I don't like being "correct" if I can improve over the factory. I have more time than they did.
