i'm not in a position to rip apart my steering box right now but did attempt to adjust the box and found that doing the adjustments as instructed i found that the left side adjustment screw pretty much bottomed out with no further tightening available.
just wondering if anyone could tell me what this might mean is going on inside my box....

From the parts diagram (caseih.com)I would suggest that the adjustment on the two screws allows the gears to be adjusted left and right by moving the shafts.
(just from looking at the exploded view) If so, if the left screw was all the way in, it would allow a dramatic amount of play in the worm follower pin and worm. Jim

i have looked at the exploded view and it looks like by adjusting the adjusting screws inward on the box it makes the 2 sector shaft/gears mesh tighter? was wondering if by that left side screw being all the way in i was just out of movement or the sector shaft has lost it's left to right movment...

Loosen the screw if you now have end play (axially) on the shaft i would agree. If the right screw taken in and laef screw loosened makes the whole assembly move closer to the Worm, it might tighten! (I do not hav access to a real box, and thus this is a mind exercise for me. Jim

The screw on the right adjusts the play between worm and shaft, one on left adjust end play of the other shaft. The one on the right is the one you use to find the high spot being center for straight ahead.
