My tractor club has aquired an old McCormick Deering vertical corn binder from the 1920's. We have a book on it but it does not cover the knotter operation. Does anybody out there have any information on the knotters?

No but for ours I had something much better - a couple of amish guys who were visiting. They really knew their way around a corn binder.

If you can't find a manual and need help, let me know.

They had the same knotter as the early IH balers or I should say they used the same knotters on the bailers. Probly easier to get a bailer book for the knotter information.

If you nead any knotter parts or know how I have the name of Amish repair shop that handles new McCormick Deering knotter parts. I bought complete rebuild kit from them. Not cheap but still availible.

I have a manual for 4-E binder, Can you get part #'s of your knotter? I will compare to mine. If the same would photo copy my book and fax a copy to you of the knotter section

I have a McCormick corn binder and do have a manual that has info on the knotter. My binder works and cuts corn good. However, I have not been able to solve all the knotter problems. Mine will miss about 1 or 2 out of every 10. I think some of it may be due to the twine quality. I'll hunt up my manual and if you will send me your E mail address, I'll scan the part about the knotter and send to you. My email is open, so you can click on send E mail and I should get it.

I read an interesting article about twine quality and balers during WWII. Seems that it has a huge impact on knotting performance. I'll see if I can find it again and post a link.

I could use a diaghram of the correct twine route. Also I am going to try to use the small round plastic twine. Has anyone else tried this and had any luck?Around this part of the country you cant buy the small size swizzel twine that I know of. None of the farm stores carry it. Thanks Sam
