544 Farmall Split

Can anyone give a first-timer some tips on splitting the bellhousing away from the back 1/3 of the tractor? Engine and entire steering housing already off. The IT manual is a little confusing, with a warning not to damage PTO bearings on Models with the 540 PTO. I"ve got the 2" plug out, and see the bolt behind it. Manual talks about "PTO driven gear" and "PTO driven shaft" and about how some mechanics prefer to pull to PTO housing from the rearend first. This is the gas F544 with C200 and has T/A. Any advice and/or help appreciated! Rick

You don't need to worry about that front pto gear until you have it split between clutch housing (TA housing) and rear housing. There is a bolt under neath inside under that T shaped cover. After seperating the housings then follow book about removal of lower pto gear and shaft.
