BC144 governor

I've got this engine in a 434 tractor. Governor response is terrible. I opened the throttle wide and moved the governor lever in the same direction, and set the link for this distance. Is this procedure correct? Joints are not stiff, and linkage not rubbing on anything. Any ideas? Thanks, Fritz

Hi Fritz,
I have the Operator"s Manual for a B-414 with Diesel BD-154 and Petrol BC-144 but there is no mention of gonvenor adjustment, only idle mixture adjustment on carb.

All I can tell you is I was just messing with the governor on my 300U. I undid the top linkage (engine off) set the throttle to full pulled up on the rod (the one that goes from the governor up to the carb shaft) and screwed the link on the top until it lined up properly with the shaft from the carb. I pinned it all back together and it worked great. I am not sure exactly where my problem was. But whatever I did, it runs better now than ever. This may not help you as your problem may not be the same but this is the (roughly) the procedure outlined in my manual.
