I have a M Farmall, and I cannot get it to idle up without dying. I rebuilt the carb, there is no trash in the tank, everything seems to be working properly. It was my grandfathers tractor and I would really like to get it usuable again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you opened the main jet adjusting screw near the bottom of the carburetor? This will enrich your fuel mixture. Even my garden tractor and big Toro mower have that feature. Hal

Yes I have adjusted it several times but it hasn't made a difference. It idles fine but when I start pulling the throttle back it dies. It is getting plenty of fuel.

Getting fuel to the carb is not the same as having it get to the air going through the carb.
The main jet is probably plugged up. (internal passages and brass parts.
The screw is used to add or subtract from the main jet flow. If it does nothing the main jet is probably plugged. A soaking level rebuild and blow out of every passage is needed.

How is the float level? If it isn't high enough, it might cause the problem that you are describing.
Best way to check level in carb is to put a fitting in the drain plug & run a piece of clear tubing up along the carb to determine level.

(quoted from post at 13:24:26 08/20/11) I will try that also, how do you adjust the fuel level?

Follow the instructions and adjust the float to the specified height, and like magic the fuel level will be correct also.

In your first post you said it wouldn't idle. Now you say it idles fine but stalls when throttle is advanced. So which is it?
The load jet adjustment at the bottom of the carb will NOT affect the idle. That is bad advice someone posted. That adjustment should solve your stumbling problems. You should get just a tad of black smoke when you pull the lever back quickly. That means you are rich enough to get good power and acceleration, and won't ping or overheat a piston.

There are two idle adjustments, mixture and speed. If you turn that idle speed screw in your engine will have to speed up. That screw is opening the butterfly.Adjust the idle mixture screw to cure loping, surging or stumbling problems.

Yes that is my fault. Its hard to type with all the noise around here. The tractor idles fine, it would set and run all day, but as soon as you start pulling the throttle back it like you turned the fuel off. I can hold my hand over the intake side of the carb till it almost dies and then pull my hand off and it will rev higher,so that kinda tells me that i'm getting enough fuel to rev that high.
