piston/power in a M

what makes more power , firecrater pistons or step head pistons? My M has firecraters now and I don"t want to go backwards for power when I rebuild it.

THe larger the volume of the head above the block, the more compression. Simple designs with smooth geometry have less quench area, and thus can produce better finish to the flame travel. Some piston top shapes work with the incoming air to swirl the mix and that can help, but not much on a 3000RPM engine.(I do not know what you are cranking, but a non ballanced crank can get whippy and fracture in the car range of RPM. I say more compression is best unless you do not like feeding it racing fuel. Jim

I would say firecrater are very good. M&W add power have the same dome height but not sure on some cc between the two.
