Will a 6 volt Optima battery fit in an original Farmall H battery box (under the gas tank type)? I have checked the measurments and they seem very close. One person wrote that he cut the tabs of the bottom of the battery to make it fit a Super C battery box.
 
6 volt Optima is what I use in my factory battery box. The battery is oval shaped. Battery fits in diagonally corner to corner. Still have original battery cables on,cranks her good.
I am on my second Optima first one lasted 9 years. Mark
 
Thanks Mark. Is yours the Red Top and did you have to grind the plastic tabs off the bottom of the battery? The box is 9 1/4" and the specifications state that the battery is 10". I understand you have more room if you turn it diagionally, but it still seems to long.
 
Someone even makes a tar top style box to put the Optima in:

Unlike the classic car/truck industry, a lot of antique/classic tractors you cannot necessarily see the battery so outside appearance might not be important...
