My friend and brought over his 186 hydro and whats going on is the pto always reads speed. W. e have sent in the display its ok. I replace the whole wire harness for that system because of broken spots. I have a adjusted the rpm sensor and correct me if im wrong this also reads the pto speed correct? Also my engine rpm is dead on. What am i missing. If anyone has any idea that would be great thank you

Moisture getting in to the console. Does it still do it since it was sent in. My combine does that with the read out on engine speed and ground speed. It goes away 15 minutes after the combine gets up to operating temp. I don't know enough about the IH's to know if yours could be resealed.

O.K....

Any with more knowledge of this, jump in and correct me, but I don't believe there's an actual PTO shaft speed sensor.

PTO speed is computed off of engine speed, so the digital dash is always "seeing" the PTO speed, even without it running.

So, either there's a switch in the PTO apply mechanism to "tell" the dash the PTO is actually running, or it will constantly show the PTO speed, when you select that function. (I don't know, offhand.)

Our town has a hydro 186 and a full set of factory shop manuals. If a get a few minutes today I'll stop by the city shop and see what I can dig up on this.

I don't know either,

But I really doubt it actually reads the PTO speed, does it?

When you switch to the PTO read-out, betcha it is just throwing a percentage of the engine speed it's seeing at the engine sensor.

Does it read zero with the engine off and the key on? That would be an indicator.
