Which Primer ?

I was wondering which color primer to use under IH white paint.I have been using a medium gray under the red paint but was wondering if I should use a white primer under the white paint. Will the gray affect the color?

Start off with etched primer. I have not done a white paint job, but I think you will be fine with a good gray primer.

Ask you paint store. I would prefer a light grey to a medium grey. White on white can be tricky to spray.

I use a medium gray epoxy primer under my IH 935 white without problems. I don't like using the same color primer and paint. good luck, and show us your finished work. Kent

Sand it and use true 2 part epoxy primer, with quality paint the color makes no difference, but I use PPG Omni 170, it is gray. You do not need etch, it is mainly for the new metal used by body shops so that they don't have to sand. Etch has to have another primer over it anyway. That said, if the piece is not perfect, use sandable surfacer over the the epoxy, again, the color makes no difference. Epoxy is not sandable.

Agree with others, don't use white primer. Spraying is a little easier against a contrasting color.

It's not the end of the world if you do use white primer, but there's just no upside to it.

If you're using even middle of the road quality paints, you won't have any trouble at all.

(assuming you're following manufacturer recomendations etc)

Thanks for all the input. I am useing a two part epoxy and Dupont topcoat. I'm real close to finishing but need the temps here to stay below 100 for more than a few hours. Will post pictures when done.
