sediment bowl repack?

i think i heard about someone on here repacking the valve in their sediment bowl with "nylon rope"? could anyone fill me in on the sp[ecifics as to techniques and suppliers of the nylon rope. also if anyone has any ideas besides the nylon rope please feel free to post! my sediment bowl is leaking a little when i have it closed.

REAL hardware stores have graphited rope packing in their plumbing department. Just a little string unwound from a chunk of that will do the job.

The "old timers" recommended a piece of string cut from a cotton mop and drawn against a bar of castille soap.

I would think nylon would be a little too plastic-y to work well for packing.

You can buy valve packing at home depot - but that stuff's about 1/8" thick and might be too thick for this purpose, not sure exactly what the valve looks like.

If it is too thick, I'd go with janicholson's idea of rolling up teflon tape. That's pretty much what valve packing is anyway. There's a reason they use that material - it's slippery, resilient, and doesn't break down easily - that's what you want to seal a valve that gets used a lot.
