I need to identify what type of magneto to look for for my 10-20. It doesent have one on it and I need to know what model of mag to look for.Can anyone lead me in the right way? Thanks

The original one is probably fairly rare, but I suspect one from a "Regular" and probably even those from an F-20 (& maybe F-30) would work. Good luck!

The early 10-20s used a Dixie Splitdorf 46C mag. Starting in 1926 IHC switched to their own E4A magneto. E4A mags are not hard to find, I rebuild magnetos and I can sell you a rebuilt E4A.

as others have posted, if you want to match the mag to the year of your tractor, we need to start there.

I would venture a guess that most 10-20's had the E4A mag on them, except for both ends of the timeline.

So, F4 mags are much easier to find, and much easier to work on (or have repaired). A good working E4A mag does look good on the early to mid production tractors.

it all depends on what year your 10-20 is, and if it is 34 or newer, you have two F-4's to choose from. Early F-4's used an expsoed style automatic impulse, whereas later F-4's used an enclosed style automatic impulse.

there were also two styles of E4A's. early ones were manual set impulse, and later ones had the 500 automatic impulse.

if anyone is confused i can take pictures to show the differences. I have all 4 styles here to show

Old-F20, you are correct. If Cooop just wants to git er runnin, I would use the laste Style F4 mag. Easier to get parts. If he wants to be correct, we need his serial number to determine year so we all can help with which mag to use.

only thing is, the late style F4 uses a different length gov shaft and the other three mag wont fit when bolted down. the shaft for a late style is shorter than the others

My original unrestored early 20's 10-20 has a Bosch ZU4 mag attached. Would this be correct? - there is nothing to suggest it has been replaced.

Yes, the Bosch ZU4 was available from the factory as a special order.
